Jeep Cherokee Towbars

Jeep Cherokee

The Jeep Cherokee is a brilliant combination of an off-roader and SUV-class vehicle. The Cherokee established itself in the 1990s and has since become a classic icon for Jeep.

The 2.2-litre diesel engine is an eager performer, especially when fitted with the smooth-shifting 9-speed auto, combine this with the clever 4x4 system allows a genuine off-road ability without sacrificing good fuel economy.

Checking your VIN Plate...

Please remember to check your vehicle's towing capacity shown on the VIN plate. If your car doesn't have a towing capacity, we cannot legally fit a Towbar to your vehicle. We recommend you do this before booking, as some vehicles vary throughout make and model (even though we may show some available).

More about the Jeep Cherokee

Jeep has manufactured the new Cherokee to move away from agricultural handling to more car-like road manners, and from the many reviews about this robust vehicle, it’s obvious that the car aims to be as comfortable as possible. The Cherokee makes for a great motorway cruiser with good refinement, the engines range from a basic 138bhp diesel to a 2.2-litre diesel. Once upon a time, Jeep manufactured a 3.2 litre V6 petrol for those who want to inject some speed into their daily commute, however, the larger gas-guzzling option was made redundant.

The Cherokee is only available in one body style, and unlike some rivals, doesn’t come with the option of seven seats. That said, it’s a spacious mid-sized SUV with a 591-litre boot that expands to 714 litres if you slide the rear seats forward. This minimises legroom, but flip-over panels cover the gap between the boot floor and the seatbacks.

The Cherokee has seven airbags, stability control and switchable four-wheel drive that can be tailored to suit off-road conditions. The updated Cherokee will feature an even more safety kit. Top-spec models come with a wealth of safety tech, including lane-departure warning assistance, blind-spot monitoring, and even a system that’ll automatically apply the handbrake when reversing if an obstacle appears behind the car. Considering there’s also a clear reversing camera view displayed through an impressive 8.4-inch touchscreen, manoeuvring the Cherokee should be a doddle.

What's my Towing Capacity?

The maximum braked trailer towing capacity of the older version of the car changed dependent on the engine and transmission. The maximum you could tow with any Cherokee was 2,200kg with the petrol 3.2-litre V6 automatic. However, drivers looking for something a little less meaty could go for the 138bhp 2.0-litre diesel or a 2.2-litre diesel available with 182bhp or 197bhp. Just remember that these engines will mean a 400kg reduction in towing power.

Which Towbar is best for my Jeep Cherokee?

There are three different towbars available for the Jeep Cherokee. A fixed flange towbar, a fixed swan neck towbar and a detachable swan neck towbar. All three of the towbars are compatible with trailers, clamp-on cycle carriers and caravans. The fixed and detachable swan neck towbars are both ALKO compatible, meaning that no ALKO ball is required when towing a caravan with an ALKO stabiliser.

If your vehicle has parking sensors, then we would strongly recommend opting for the detachable swan neck towbar. This will ensure that there is no interference with your parking sensors, as you can remove the neck when not in use.

Will it need a bumper cut?

When fitting a towbar to the Jeep Cherokee, the bumper would need to be removed initially to complete the installation but will be refitted upon completion. No bumper cut is required to be made to all the standard models of the Cherokee for any type of towbar available.
